Enable Me and Aiming High!
As some of you may already be aware, Enable Me has recently tendered for part of the Aiming High for Disabled Children funding, currently available from West Sussex County Council.
EM have submitted an application to help support a new Disability Sports project aiming at offering long term sports workshops in schools. These would take place in P.E lessons, at lunchtimes, in after-school clubs and during school holidays.
The aim of the project is to help inspire and enable young people with disabilities to take part in and most importantly enjoy sport. The project also aims to encourage able bodied young people to participate to help develop their understanding and allow more inclusion..
For more information about the Aiming High Disability Sports Project or if you would like to get involved please speak to Chris or Seb on 01903 734400.
Can we take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all those who volunteered in schools in the last year. We have had a successful year and have received some fantastic feedback from the schools we have visited so thank you for all your hard work and commitment.
We are hoping to visit even more schools next year and so look forward to seeing you working hard again!
We will be in touch soon with some dates and schools for the new term, starting in September.
We are just about to undertake a recruitment drive to try and get even more volunteers to help deliver the workshops in schools. We are looking to expand the service as far across Sussex as we can and therefore we are looking for volunteers from the Horsham / Crawley and Mid-Sussex areas. If anyone knows of anybody who might be interested, please let us know in the office.
We have also been working hard to prepare a new training program for all volunteers to undertake. The training dates have yet to be set but we will write to you over the next few weeks when they are! The training will include workshops on Child Protection, Health and Safety, Boundaries and Presentation skills. We are aiming to keep the training to the minimum amounts of time needed and will discuss with individuals regarding transportation at an appropriate time.
We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Paul Brackley as our Volunteer Co-ordinator. He has been working in schools with us for a number of weeks, helping to organise and assist volunteers during the course of a school day. His role is also to oversee the new recruitment drive during the summer months.
We at Enable Me always enjoy a laugh and often some of the questions asked by children make us chuckle, our current favourite was when one young pupil asked Nik (our Project Manager) “Are you wearing a wig?!”. Time for a haircut we think Nik!!!!
See you all soon!
