It offers our students a chance to socialise together at the weekend when this would not normally happen. A lifeline to some parents who benefit from a couple of hours of respite knowing that their young person is in safe hands developing independence, confidence and co-ordination skills in an environment that is staffed with people whom are extremely positive, empathetic and encouraging.
Yesterday I watched a student sit in a sports wheelchair and skilfully propel himself at speed around our sports hall with a great big smile on his face. A couple of weeks ago he was just going around and around in circles tentatively.
This same student is a typical teenager and loves his bed but on Saturday his dad informs me that he just whispers those magic words "Enable Me" and his eyes ping open! For me this is testament to what a fantastic club this is.

?The WSCC Short Breaks Team is looking forward to another year of partnership working with Enable Me building on the success of the work we undertook together through the Aiming High for Disabled Children's Programme. The sporting activities they provided for this programme were not only popular and fun for those taking part, they also helped to continue to promote true inclusion for disabled children and young people. Working with partners, they also developed a set of workshops focusing on disability awareness and delivered this bespoke training to staff from a wide range of services. Feedback has been very positive and we'll be developing the model in order to offer support to universal services who want to make sure they are welcoming to families with disabled children.?
